In today’s day and age, more people than ever are exploring the van life. And with #vanlife on Instagram generating over 5 million posts at one time, it’s easy to see how popular this living phenomenon has become.

So, whether you want to dip your toes into this lifestyle or go full steam ahead and reside in a van permanently, here’s some stunning UK-based destinations perfect for enjoying life on the road – and appreciating all the natural beauty the UK has to offer.

Exmoor National Park

One of the UK’s most stunning areas of countryside, Exmoor National park has so much to offer. From classic British rolling hills to stunning sunsets across the moors, this is the perfect spot to relax and feel at one with nature.

With plenty of camping options available, you can experience a little more luxury when on the road too. And if you’re lucky, you might encounter wild ponies and deer.

Isle of Skye

Easily accessible from Scotland’s northwest coast by bridge, the Isle of Skye is a van life haven. So long as you don’t mind the cold weather.

The Isle of Skye is renowned for its rolling landscapes, picturesque fishing villages and castles. Perfect to spend multiple days exploring with stunning views no matter where you go, there’s plenty to do here.

The capital town of Portree is great to use as a base. And if you fancy a break from cooking in your van (even if you’ve got one of our portable fridge freezers!), there’s lots of quirky restaurants to try.

Dartmoor National Park

Yet another national park, but we couldn’t not include Dartmoor in this list. Located in Devon, Dartmoor’s rugged landscapes, valleys and rivers provide a huge range of opportunities to explore.

Dartmoor ponies roam the landscapes, and you’ll find plenty of unique trails to follow. With many leading to Bronze Age stone circles and farmhouses dating all the way back to Medieval times, you’ll get a super dose of history when exploring here too!

Like Exmoor, there’s plenty of camping options. Perfect if you want to park-up and stay for multiple days, you’ll easily find a base to relax and meet new people on Dartmoor.

Dorset

Home to the Jurassic Coast and the iconic Durdle Door, Dorset isn’t to be missed if you’re exploring the UK in your van.

There’s so much to do and see! From Lulworth Cove to Corfe Castle, there’s literally something for everyone. And with history dating back over 180 million years, you’ll certainly get to explore a whole new frontier of culture.

And we just love this photo from @hightop.highlife. What better way to enjoy a Dorset sunset than hanging in a hammock?!

The Lake District

If you love watersports and stunning views, the Lake District is the perfect choice for some brilliant van life exploring. Featuring a huge range of stunning lakes, many are so big they feel like oceans – just without the choppy waves!

It’s also the perfect spot for some chilled water sports during the summer. Think paddleboarding and water skiing and kayaking. And if you fancy a change of scenery from your van, there’s plenty of traditional pubs around. Perfect after a long day exploring or driving.

And there you have it. Our top picks for living the van life in the UK. While we can’t always guarantee decent weather, one thing we can guarantee is stunning views and picturesque nature you’ll struggle to find elsewhere.
