With Ireland often called the Emerald Isle, it’s not hard to see why it’s become such a popular destination for van lifers. From the stunning scenery to super friendly locals (and plenty of Guinness), Ireland has a lot to offer – even if you can’t always guarantee the weather!
So, if you’re thinking of touring Ireland as part of your next van life trip, here’s some inspiration for top spots to visit.
Slea Head
The Slea Head Drive is hailed as one of the most scenic routes Ireland has to offer. Part of the Dingle Peninsula, you’ll experience many historic sites, views of the infamous Blasket Islands, and a bunch of Irish speaking villages.
So, if you fancy practising your Irish with traditional Irish-speaking folk, now’s your chance! The route is clearly marked with signposts, and you can take everything at your own pace. Whether you want to spend a few hours or even multiple days exploring this Irish gem, you and your van will have plenty of opportunity to stop and take detours.

Burren National Park
If you love exploring rocky landscapes, the Burren National Park is the perfect van life destination. Derived from the Irish word ‘Boireann’ meaning “great rock”, the Burren is renowned for its vast rock formations, cracked limestone, and stunning archaeological sites.
And with plenty of cliffs and caves to explore too, it’s impossible to run out of places to see at the Burren National Park. All walking trails are open all year round too, with free admission. Provided you’ve got all your essentials (including a portable fridge freezer!), you’re able to stay and explore the Burren to your heart’s content.
County Donegal
The fourth largest county across the whole of Ireland, County Donegal is brimming with van life opportunity. Included as part of the Wild Atlantic Way too, you’ll have a pre-set drive to follow if you’re unsure where to begin.
One of Donegal’s most popular destinations is Malin Head. The most northern point across all of Ireland, it’s definitely worth a visit with stunning views and amazing photo opportunities.
And if you’re lucky with the weather and want a little peace and quiet, check out Kinnagoe Bay while on your travels. Secluded and simply beautiful, Kinnagoe Bay is renowned for its crystal blue waters. It’s also pretty close to the nearby town of Inishowen if you fancy treating yourself to some home comforts.
Achill Island
Situated off the west coast of Ireland’s mainland, Achill Island is the largest of the Irish Isles. It’s easily accessible via bridge, so your van will never have to be left behind!
Hailed for its stunning mountains, sea cliffs and picturesque beaches, Achill Island is a beautiful place to explore – especially if the weather is on your side.
And if watersports are your thing, the breezy coastline is perfect. Pop your paddleboard in the boot and you’re good to go. Keem Bay is a personal favourite, with its soft sand and clear waters being a real hotspot for travellers.
Connemara
It’s said when you visit Connemara, you experience the true beauty of Ireland. If incredible scenery is what you’re looking for, Connemara offers just that – and then some.
From rich woodlands to towering mountains to calm rivers, there’s a huge range of stunning nature to be explored. And as you drive closer to the coastline, you’ll come across plenty of gorgeous sandy beaches. Connemara is one of the most unpolluted areas you’ll find in County Galway, and it truly shows.
