Whether you’ve opted for the compact 24L or our biggest 80L, the same basic rules apply. All Active compressor fridge freezers require similar set-up and maintenance – and these key instructions for getting started will help you on your way!

Simply plug your DC power socket into the corresponding end of the appliance, then connect to your car adaptor socket. And if wanting to use your 12v portable freezer outside of your vehicle, you can connect it to virtually any suitable 12v power source. This applies to 24v too for maximum versatility. 

Once correctly plugged-in, your fridge freezer will automatically turn on. It’s as easy as that, and you’re ready to hit the road. 

12V Portable Freezer Top Maintenance Tips

Here’s some simple top tips to help you get the most out of your compressor fridge. Not only will they help maximize efficiency and food quality, but can increase overall longevity of the appliance.

Clean before first use

Even though your 12v portable fridge freezer will have come direct from our factory, an initial clean is crucial. This will eliminate any potential dirt that could have built-up during transit, ensuring your food and drink are being stored in the most hygienic environment possible. 

Make sure the appliance is switched off and disconnected from any power source. Using a damp cloth and lukewarm water, gently clean your fridge freezer inside and out. You should also ensure no water drips into the seals, as this could damage the electronics.

Don’t mix fresh & frozen food

All Active compressor fridge freezers have the temperature power to both freeze and cool food. But it’s essential you store them correctly to get the most out of this feature. 

Fresh and frozen foods should never be stored directly next to each other. This could cause fresh foods to accidentally freeze or become spoiled. We also recommend storing goods like fruit and veg toward the top, as this reduces the risk of spoiling or damage by heavier items.

Keep your 12v portable freezer as full as possible

Your compressor fridge freezer will always be more efficient if it’s full to the brim! A full appliance requires less power over a 24 hour period than if only half full. 

When packed with food and drink, there’s less air space between each item. This keeps cold air trapped, increasing overall efficiency. But if there’s large air spaces between your goods, cold air can’t be held anywhere near as effectively. 

Top tip: If you simply don’t have enough food to fill your portable fridge freezer, fill the empty spaces with bottles! This allows cold air to be trapped far more efficiently, keeping your food cool or frozen with less power required. 

Don’t store glass bottles in freezing temperatures

If setting the temperature to 0°C or less, don’t store any glass bottles in your 12v portable freezer. Such low temperatures could cause them to freeze and shatter, potentially damaging the appliance in the process – as well as surrounding food or drink.
